Words without barriers

The City of the Big Shoulders

The whole world comes to New York City where
Graffiti greets grassless gravel where
Crinkled coffee cups litter the corner café under
Skyscrapers screaming silent sounds to the subway
Trains, take tourists to the heart of the big city
Where they stand on its shoulders and look towards
The big, bold and beautiful

Long nights
Bright Lights
Lonely Hearts
Big City

Club Mecca plays jazz long into the night
Pretty boys dangle champagne
Glasses, at women who wink at you across the
Bar where, the trombone player taps his foot as the beat
Drops, eye contact across the room
Black hat, white tie, white teeth smile
Green silk, red hair, angelic face
Smooth dark velvet against porcelain white
She inhales her exhale
The night is warm on her cheeks

The day awaits her flight
